In this once-in-the-white guitar, I've captured the style of the small early-twenties Martin steel-string guitars that were made in the "Spanish Style" (12-frets to the body; slotted pegheads; rectangular bridges with tie blocks) and, at the same time, made in the 'Hawaiian style' (with Hawaiian Koa back and sides.
It's new owner wrote back:
Dear Mr. Cumpiano: I’ve had the guitar for a little while now. It’s been through a few gigs so now I can honestly tell you that it is everything I hoped it would be and more. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! The guitar is so alive and so in tune. It truly sings. It will always be treasured.

Pau Amarello ("Yellowheart") is an stunning exotic tropical timber displaying a both outstanding resonance and uniformity of texture, which to my knowledge has not previously been used for guitarmaking. It's density, stiffness and texture is nonetheless technically ideal for the purpose.
A full-bodied, well balanced sound is the result and a striking visual appearance you're not likely to see anywhere else.

A japanese client selected this in-the-white for his brother who had been struck by the instrument's form and history. After finishing and shipping, he wrote back:
