Peter Schireson's remarks after finishing his guitarmaking tutorial
Peter Schireson built this beautiful Curly maple classic in my shop in early February, 2002
I am writing to express my gratitude to you for your wonderful teaching and company. I have to keep rubbing my eyes (and checking my digital pics) to make sure I wasn't dreaming. The experience of working with you and learning from you was both different and better than I expected. The big difference was that I expected it to be stressful. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to keep up, that I would make too many mistakes, that you might be impatient. Well, I certainly made my share of mistakes, but your patience and graciousness never let mistakes become a problem. And it was even better than I expected for several reasons. Your company was one. It really was a pleasure to hang out with you. I think if I lived nearby, we'd be friends. I was also really astonished by the skillful way in which you shaped the tutorial. Are you a master guitar builder who happens to teach, or a master teacher who happens to build guitars? Hard to say. In either case, the depth of your understanding coupled with your ability to communicate just enough information made learning easy and enjoyable. And finally, the guitar. I really thought I ended up with something beautiful. I can't wait to see and play the finished, lacquered instrument.
I have put together a small assortment of the many pics I took during the tutorial. They're on my family website . Please take a look.
